My Favorite Bible Passages to Meditate On

The Bible was never meant to be a one-time read. It was meant to be read, considered, prayed back to God, talked about in community, read again, and meditated on.

SEE THE COORESPONDING VIDEO HERE!

It is in this process that our minds are renewed & reoriented back to their proper position- dwelling on God's godness and glory, overflowing with worship, and loving others through this.

I like to write down a passage of scripture on multiple note cards and place them all around my house. I say it to myself many times a day so that it starts to really take root. Over time, I find that I have memorized it without trying and am then able to let the words roll around in my mind all day long. I usually swap out my passage 3-4 times a year.

It can be helpful to emphasize different parts of the verse as you think on it.

For example:

TAKE my yoke upon you, and learn from me...

Take MY yoke upon you, and learn from me...

Take my YOKE upon you, and learn from me...

🕊️ Of course, Dear Mushka was created, in part, to have wearable reminders of these passages, too. So when it's applicabale, I love to wear the jewelry piece on a daily basis for a tactile reminder of God's truth. You can see how so many of my meditation passages turned into jewelry over the years!

Here are a few of the passages I have meditated on over the years:

1. Lamentations 3:22-26 (The Portion Necklace)

"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “therefore I will hope in him.”

25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
    to the soul who seeks him.
26 It is good that one should wait quietly
    for the salvation of the Lord."

2. Matthew 11:28-30 (The Yoke Necklace)

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

3. Psalm 73:21-28 (The Shell Earrings)

21 When my soul was embittered,
    when I was pricked in heart,
22 I was brutish and ignorant;
    I was like a beast toward you.

23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you;
    you hold my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
    and afterward you will receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
    And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength[b] of my heart and my portion forever.

27 For behold, those who are far from you shall perish;
    you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.
28 But for me it is good to be near God;
    I have made the Lord God my refuge,
    that I may tell of all your works.

4. Proverbs 3:3-8 (The Bound Necklace & The Path Necklace)

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
    bind them around your neck;
    write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and good success[a]
    in the sight of God and man.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
    and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
    and he will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh[b]
    and refreshment[c] to your bones.

5. Colossians 1:13-20 (The Kingdom Earrings & The Before Bracelet)

"He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross."
